Over the last couple of months New Generation has had four volunteers, Andy, Andy, Rachel and Bex, from our UK .
They have been helping us with our programmes for street children, and have been learning more about the different work we do here at New Generation.
Last month, we all travelled up to Muyinga, in the north of Burundi, where we are in the process of building a village for some of the children to live, who are attending school. The first house is near completion, and we all did some of the work to try and get it finished as soon as possible.
Once it is completed, at least eight children will live there, as well as an older boy from New Generation, to look after them.
The dream is to create a village and farming area that is self-sustaining, where the children can learn to look after themselves, and be in community with people from all different ethnic backgrounds. We want this village to be a symbol of hope for the communities around it, showing that Burundi has a positive future and that people can work together.
Our aim is to build five houses before the end of 2012.
